Jennie Ernestine Goethals

Jennie Ernestine Goethals, 101, of Bennett, Iowa, died Friday, September 7, 2012, at Genesis Medical Center, West Campus, Davenport. Jennie was born June 28, 1911, the daughter of August and Veronica (Vlaemink) Timmerman, in Moline. She attended Clinton County Country Schools and was united in marriage to Joseph Goethals on August 16, 1934, in Toronto, Iowa.  Jennie was a homemaker. She and Joseph began farming in 1935 in Clinton and Scott County and then purchased their farm in Cedar County near Bennett in 1945. She participated with the Bennett Senior Citizens, "500" Card Club, Garden Club, Golden Wedding Anniversary Club and was a member of Farm Bureau. Jennie was also a faithful member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Tipton. Jennie is survived by three daughters, Jean (Lawrence) Martens of Camanche, Janice (Richard) Welsh of Rio Vista, Calif., Joan (Butch) Richlen of Dixon, Iowa; son, James (Rayelee) Goethals of Bennett; 17 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one-great-great-grandchild.  She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, sisters, Zelma Goethals and Alice Caes; brothers, Julius Timmerman and Leon Timmerman; grandson, Michael Richlen; and great-gra...[more]

anddaughter, Heather Martens. Funeral services for Jennie will be held Wednesday, September 12, 2012, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Tipton with Reverend David Hitch officiating. There will be a visitation at Fry Funeral Home, Tipton, on Tuesday, September 11, 2012, from 4 to 7 p.m. with a Parish Vigil Service at the conclusion of the visitation. Burial will be at Inland Cemetery, Bennett, with a time of food and fellowship at the Bennett Community Center immediately following the graveside committal service.  A memorial fund has been established for the Bennett Fire Department and Ambulance Service.
