Dorothy (Brewer) McMillan, 86, of Ponca, NE went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, September 15, 2012 at a Sioux City hospital. Services will be held at 10:30 A.M. on Thursday, September 20, 2012 at the First United Methodist Church of Ponca with Rev. Lorri Kentner officiating. Burial will be in the Ponca Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday with the family present from 6 to 8 and a prayer service at 7:00 P.M. at the church. Dorothy was born on October 31, 1925 in Park Rapids, MN to Harold and Jewell (Jenkins) Phares. She attended school in Ponca. She married George (Rex) Brewer in June of 1941. They had three children and were married for 46 years when Rex died in 1987. She married Herbert McMillan in September of 1989. They were married for 19 years. Herb passed away in 2008. She was devoted to her family and was a great cook, who was known for her bread, pies and chocolate chip cookies. She was also a songwriter and music lover. She is survived by 3 children, Judie (Rodney) Bauman, Robert (Jean) Brewer, and Mark Brewer and special friend, Rhonda Criddle, all of Ponca; 5 step-children, Carol Lantz, Jan Williams, Charles (Dorothy) McMillan, Tom (Ellen) McMillan and Steve McMillan; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; 4 great-great-grandchildren; her sister, Evelyn Powell; brother-in-law, Norman Oesterich; 2 half-brothers, Ron and Herb Phares; 2 half-sisters, Bonnie Thurman and Linda Sachen; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Jewell Phares; her husband, Rex Brewer; husband, Herb McMillan; sisters, Marjorie Oesterich and Margaret Feeny; beloved daughter-in-law, Billie Brewer; brothers-in-law, Charles Powell and Carlyle Feeny; step-sons-in-law, Richard Williams and Fred Lantz; 2 grandchildren; and 1 great-grandchild.
