Daniel J. Schmidt

Dan Schmidt, 62, of Hampton, Iowa passed away Monday, September 24, 2012, at St. Mary's Hospital in Rochester, Minnesota. Dan Schmidt the son of Ralph and Beverly (Bronsema) Schmidt, was born on September 13, 1950, in Waverly, Iowa, where he grew up, graduated from Waverly-Shell Rock High school in 1969, and met and married his wife Karen in 1971. The following year, they moved to Hampton and joined St. Patrick's Catholic Church. Over the years Dan worked at United Hydraulics, Mort's Pump and Plumbing, and Hampton Dumont Community Schools. Subsequently Dan and Karen owned and operated a variety of small businesses in downtown Hampton including Home Video, Radio Shack, the Hampton Home Store, US Cellular, and the Coonley Apartment Building. Dan was an avid gun collector and enjoyed hunting. His mechanical and construction skills served him well in the operation of his businesses. He was most proud of his children and simply adored his nine grandchildren.
