Mark Eugene "Hoss" Hons WEST LIBERTY, Iowa--Mark Eugene "Hoss" Hons, 53, died on Thursday October 4, 2012 at his home near West Liberty following an extended illness. There will be no Funeral Service will be held. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, October 8, 2012, at the Henderson-Barker Funeral Home in West Liberty. A memorial fund has been established. Mark will be missed by all. A very special thanks to Betty, Nancy and Diana Sprague of Mercy Services and Joan, Christy, Steve, and Maurie, of Iowa City Hospice. Mark was born January 29, 1959, the son of Max and Phyllis West Hons. In 1977, he was a graduate of Woodbury Central High School in Moville, Iowa. Hoss moved to West Liberty in August 1981 to work for Ken and Linda Minor who became like a second set up parents to him, and for whom he worked for 18 ½ years. He then went to Stutsman's Inc. in Hills from 2000-2004. On April 13, 1985, he was united in marriage to the former Shelly Severson in West Liberty and they had three children, Brittney, Lindsey and Max. Survivors include his wife, Shelly Hons of West Liberty; his three children, Brittney and Lindsey of Cedar Falls, and Max of West Liberty; three sisters, Diane Ashley and husband, Chuck, and Nancy Weaver and husband, Tim, of Moville, and Jeannine Hons of Kirkland, Washington; his step-father, Verlyn Schmidt of Moville; a step-sister, Sherry Beaver and husband, Randy, of Moville; a step-brother, Rick Schmidt of Moville; as well as several nieces and nephews. He is also survived by his in-laws, Robert and June Severson of West Liberty; a sister-in-law, Mindy Heick and husband, Dean, of West Liberty; a brother-in-law, Mike Severson and wife, Marci, of Wilton; one niece and three nephews; and three very special friends who were like family, Jason Wulf of Gary, Indiana, Renee Wulf Miller of Iowa City, and Troy Wulf of West Liberty. He was preceded in death by his father, Max, who died when Mark was 6 years old; his mother, Phyllis Hons Schmidt; and a niece Michelle Wood.
