Ferman Schaefer, 86, passed away Monday, October 22, 2012 at the Chariton Nursing and Rehab Center. Family will receive friends on Thursday, October 25, 2012 from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. at the Pierschbacher Funeral Home in Lacona. Private Family Services will be held at a later date. Ferman Joseph Schaefer was born November 5, 1925 at home near Lacona to Stephen and Bertha (Seifert) Schaefer. He attended country school near Lacona. Ferman was married to Irma Hoch on December 31, 1949 in Bauer, Iowa. They were blessed with three children: Norbert, Craig, and Barb. Ferman farmed near Lacona all his life and especially enjoyed raising hogs. He also worked as a part time carpenter for many years. He enjoyed his garden and reading. Ferman is survived by his wife of 62 years, Irma; children: Norbert (Sandy) Schaefer of Lacona, Craig Schaefer of Ft. Dodge, and Barb (Jack) Byers of Milo; 9 grandchildren: Amanda (Jeff) Morrison, Ashley (Jess) Stewart, Zachary (Emily) Schaefer, Andrea (Bradley) Vandomelen, Tara (Don) Giannatti, Courtney (Ron) Jacobs, Garrett (Libby) Byers, Waylon (Diana) Byers, and Jacki Jo; 15 great grandchildren; and siblings: David (Mary) Schaefer and Gerald (Jane) Schaefer. Also surviving are many relatives and friends.
