Curtis Wayne Lau

Mr. Curtis Wayne Lau, 43, of West Burlington died at 5:30 a.m. Thursday, October 25, 2012, at his home. Born August 25, 1969 in Waverly, he was the son of Roland and Betty Hartman Lau. On August 17, 1996 he married Christy Baker in Denver, Iowa. Curt was a graduate of Wapsie Valley High School in Fairbank, received his associate of arts degree from Waldorf College in Forest City and his bachelors of arts in education from North Park University in 1992. He was the assistant men's basketball coach at Wartburg College in Waverly from 1997 to 2004. Curt was a teacher and coach at Postville Community School, Community Lutheran in Readlyn and retired in 2010 from West Burlington Elementary. Curt had a memory like no other. He could recall moments from his childhood and high school sporting events that astonished his family and friends. He was a "jokester" and always had a smile ready except for when his sister had a camera in her hand. He enjoyed coaching basketball and playing any type of sport. Burlington; one son, Parker Lau of West Burlington; his mother, Betty Lau of Readlyn; sister, Joan Lau (Lowell Lindsey) of Guelph, Ontario and brother, David Lau (Dawn) of Denver. He was preceded in death by his father, Roland Lau. Friends may call from 1 until 6 p.m. Saturday, October 27th, at Lunning Chapel where the family will receive friends from 4 until 6 p.m. Visitation at Kaiser Corson Funeral Home, 110 S. State St., Denver, IA will be from 3 until 7 p.m. with family receiving friends from 4 until 7 p.m. Monday, October 29th. The funeral service will be 11 a.m. Tuesday, October 30th, at St. Johns Lutheran Maxfield Church with burial in the church cemetery. A memorial has been established in Curt's memory.
