William Leonard Tipton, 87 of Nevada passed away peacefully on Friday, 9 November at Delmar Gardens Nursing Home in O'Fallon, Missouri. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, 13 November in the First United Methodist Church, 1036 7th Street in Nevada with burial next to his wife Ruth, at the Hubbard Cemetery. William 'Bill' Tipton was born July 17, 1925 in Nevada, Iowa to Harold Leonard and Katherine (Campbell) Tipton and was their only child. He graduated from Nevada High School in 1943 and from the University of Iowa in 1947 with a degree in Pharmacy. After graduating college, Bill became the third generation Tipton to work at the William L. Tipton & Son Pharmacy along with his grandfather William L. and his father Harold. Bill eventually took over the business, which celebrated its 100th anniversary in 1990, and maintained the historic corner building that still anchors main street Nevada, until his retirement in 1994. Bill was a licensed pharmacist in Iowa for over 50 years. Bill always enjoyed talking to patrons from his counter in the Pharmacy. Story County Hospital. Their son, Paul Leonard Tipton was born on 15 April, 1958. The couple was active in the Nevada medical community for several decades. The couple enjoyed travel and eventually visited every state except Alaska. Ruth preceded Bill in death on 18 August, 2007. Bill is survived by his son Paul and his wife Sande, and their two children Bradlee and Michelle who live near St. Louis, Missouri. Bill was active in several men's organizations in the area. In 1946 Bill joined the Masonic Lodge and in 1950 became a member of the Ancient Arabic Order of the Nobles of the Mystic Shrine and the Za-Ga-Zig Shrine in Des Moines where he enjoyed playing trumpet in their concert band. Bill was the youngest man to join the Nevada Lions Club when it started in 1948 and he was one of the last of the 88 original members. Bill was once the Worthy Patron of the Order of Eastern Star at the same time his wife was the Worthy Matron. In late 2006, Bill moved to O'Fallon Missouri to be in the care of his son. While Bill lived in an assisted living facility and eventually a skilled nursing home, his son and family would visit him nearly daily. Memorials may be given in Bill's name to the First United Methodist Church or a charity of the donor's choice. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the church.
