Mary J. Koester MUSCATINE, Iowa --Mary Jean Koester, 84, of Muscatine, passed away on Saturday, November 10, 2012. at Trinity Muscatine. Funeral Service will be 10 a.m. on Wednesday, November 14, 2012, at the Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Steve Cauley will officiate. Burial will be in the Muscatine Memorial Park Cemetery. Following the committal services at the cemetery, a time of food and fellowship will be held at the Zion Lutheran Church. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 13, 2012, at the Geo. M. Wittich-Lewis Home for Funeral and Cremation Services. Memorials may be directed to the Zion Lutheran Church in memory of Mary. Mary was born on August 16, 1928, in Muscatine, the daughter of Glen W. and Edith H. Barkalow Sloan. On August 25, 1946, Mary was united in marriage to William E. Koester in Muscatine. He preceded her in death in May of 1999. Mary worked for Miller's Furniture for 20 years and also the Dutch Treat Restaurant for more than years. She was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church and a past member of the Ladies of the Moose. Mary will be deeply missed by her children, Nancy Jens and husband, Denny, of Muscatine, Michael Koester and wife, Kathy, of Moline, Illinois, DeAnn Eis of Aurora, Illinois, and Susan Cannon and husband, Pat, of St. Louis, Missouri; eight grandchildren, Matthew Koester and wife, Mandy, Noah Koester, Sam Koester and wife, Ericka, Brandon Jens and wife, Caroline, Cory Jens and wife, Caroline, Lindsey Eis, Tom Cannon and Mary Cannon; and six great grandchildren, Payge Koester, Kyle Koester, Lucy Jens, Ever Jens, Gibson Jens and Miles Koester. Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; four brothers; and four sisters.
