Eugene J. Birenbaum Gene Birenbaum, of Belgium, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday, November 18, 2012 at Harbor Club in Port Washington. He was 86 years old. Gene was born May 22, 1926 in Dacada, the son of John and Susan Feyereisen Birenbaum. He proudly served his country in the United States Army from 1950-1952. On July 3, 1954, he was united in marriage with Alice Lanser at St. Mary Lake Church. For many years, Gene worked as a welder at Simplicity. Gene was a member of Divine Savior Parish, St. Mary Chapel in Lake Church, the Catholic Order of the Foresters Court #1592 and the American Legion Post #412, for which he had been a Commander in the mid 1970's, and had spent years taking care of the Legion hall. Gene enjoyed gardening, playing cards, traveling, and spending time with his family. He was a hard working family man, who will be remembered as a practical joker and always being in a good mood. Gene is survived by his wife Alice of Belgium, and their 6 children: Debbie Schmidt of Belgium, Donna (Mike) Burmesch of Port Washington, Pat (Jean) of Grafton, Dan of Belgium, Jim (Debbie) of Plymouth and Jeff (Shelly) of Cascade. grandchildren: Christopher, Chad (Jen) and Michael (Amanda) Schmidt, Ali (Joel) Zalewski, Andie (fiancé Brian), Mikey (friend Nicole) and Mark Burmesch, Briana, Adam, Kylie, Kyle, Erica and Sarah Birenbaum, great-grandson Noah Schmidt, brothers Vincent of Random Lake and Richard (Shirley) of Cedar Grove, sisters-in-law: Beatie Birenbaum of Random Lake, Geraldine (Clem) Bichler of Belgium, Sr. Martha Lanser of Milwaukee and Mary Ann Lanser of Port Washington, nieces, nephews, other relatives and many friends. He is preceded in death by his grandson Tyler Birenbaum and siblings: Ray, Joseph and Clemens Birenbaum and Marie Wollner. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30AM on Saturday, November 24, 2012 at Divine Savior Parish, St. Mary Chapel, 6092 Lake Church Rd. in Lake Church with Father James Ernster officiating. He will be laid to rest in the parish cemetery with full military honors. The family will receive visitors at Eernisse Funeral Home, 171 N. Royal Ave., Belgium, on Friday, November 23 from 4-8PM and on Saturday, November 24 from 9-10AM, leaving in procession at 10AM for mass. In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to the T-Baum Foundation or the Belgium Fire and Rescue Department. The Eernisse Funeral Home is honored to be serving the family.
