ALFRED WINEGARD MUSCATINE, Iowa - Alfred Daniel Winegard, 86, of Muscatine, died on Sunday, December 2, 2012, at Lutheran Homes. Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, December 7, 2012, at the Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home. Pastor Paul Brooks will officiate. Private Burial will take place in Illinois City Cemetery, Illinois City, Illinois. Memorials may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation, American Heart Association, or American Diabetes. The Ralph J. Wittich-Riley-Freers Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements. Alfred was born on December 18, 1925, in Rock Island County, the second child of Daniel and Bertha Mueller Winegard. He graduated from Reynolds High School, Class of 1943. He was drafted into the US Army in May of 1944. He served two years in the European Theater during World War II with the 363rd Medical Battalion as an ambulance driver, the 255th Infantry as an ammunitions handler, and the 38th HQ Battery as a clerk typist before being honorably discharged in June of 1946. i on May 9, 1998, in Muscatine. Alfred was self-employed in farming and operated a trucking firm, retiring in 1998. He was a member of the Providence Baptist Church. Those left to honor his memory include in wife, Kay, of Muscatine; his children, Janina Hawley and husband, Chris, and Chad Winegard and wife, Diane, all of Muscatine, Stacey Simmons and husband, Byron, of Illinois City, Illinois, and Cort Winegard and wife, Colleen, of Keota; 10 grandchildren, Lance Hawley, Nic Hawley and wife, Abbie, Matt Winegard and wife, Amanda, Chelsea Winegard, Mikaela, Eli, and Zoe Simmons, and Katie, Dan, and Beth Winegard; one great-grandson, Rex Hawley; one brother, Robert Winegard and wife, Patty, of Illinois City, Illinois; a sister-in-law, Marilyn Winegard of Greenville, Michigan. He is also survived by eight step-children; eight step-great-grandchildren; and two step-great great-grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his parents; his first wife; one brother, Wilbur Winegard; and two sisters, Blanche Templemire and Martha Morehead.
