Merle Francis Breakfield

Merle Francis Breakfield, one of three children of Eva Melzena (Murrell) and William Jesse Breakfield, was born on May 11, 1941, in Falcon, Missouri. He grew up in Carson, Iowa and graduated from Carson-Macedonia High School in 1959. Merle was a carpenter and then a self-employed dump truck operator. He spent the last 14 years working for Cohron Ready-Mix in Carson. Merle and Jeanine Husz were married on June 4, 1961, at the United Methodist Church in Carson. They made their home in Carson and their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Raneta Jean, Teri Dawn, and Beth Ann. Merle was a member of the Masonic Lodge in Carson and served on the Carson Volunteer Fire Department for many years. He spent many hours "cruising" around Carson. Merle listened to his favorite team, the Iowa Hawkeyes, on the radio and mostly enjoyed attending his grandkids sporting events and cheering them on...he was their biggest fan. Other interests were playing on Junior's fast pitch softball team, playing the bass guitar in a Country Western band, and he loved to fish. rle passed away on January 3, 2013, at the Jennie Edmundson Hospital in Council Bluffs, Iowa, at the age of 71 years, 7 months, and 22 days. He was preceded in death by his parents; mother and father in law, Marvin and Edna Husz; and brothers-in-law, Tim Husz and Jim Jefferis. Merle is survived by his wife Jeanine Breakfield of Carson; daughters, Raneta Todd and husband Tim of Carson, Teri Price and husband Scott, and Beth Ford and husband Brett all of Council Bluffs; seven grandchildren, MaKayla Todd, Mallory Todd, Tanner Todd, Bailey Price, Ryan Price, Emma Ford, and Anna Ford; brother, Leland "Victor" Breakfield and wife Bonnie of Bellevue, NE; sister Donna Bowen and husband Gary of Carson; sisters-in-law, Beverly Jefferis of Carson, and Marilyn Harrill and husband Bob of Riverdale, ND; brother-in-law Butch Husz and wife Velda of Oakland, IA; and lots of nieces and nephews. Memorials are directed to the family. Interment in the Carson Cemetery. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Carson in charge of arrangements.
