Suzanne E. Ridge

Mrs. Suzanne E. Ridge, 76, of Burlington died at 9:57 a.m. Thursday, January 3, 2013, at Great River Medical Center. Born March 28, 1936 in Burlington, she was the daughter of William John and Ethel Virginia Kurka Waugh. On October 5, 1958 she married Joseph S. Ridge at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Mrs. Ridge was a 1954 graduate of Burlington High School. She was a loving homemaker and mother, worked for 20 years in the retail industry for Brincks and was the dental assistant for Dr. Hugg. Mrs. Ridge was a member of SS John and Paul Catholic Church. She volunteered at Mercy Hospital and other activities, was an avid golfer and Hawkeye sports fan and loved to read. She was a caring friend. Survivors include her husband, Joseph Ridge of Burlington; one daughter, Kate Ridge and her life partner, Barbara Gross of Des Moines; one son, Michael Ridge and his longtime companion, Melissa McDermott of Berwyn, Illinois; grandchildren; two brothers, James Waugh of Burlington and John (Janice) Waugh of Louisville, Kentucky; nieces and nephews, and grand nieces and nephews. at Lunning Chapel. The memorial funeral mass for Mrs. Ridge will be 1 p.m. Saturday, January 5th, at St. Paul's Catholic Church. Father Marty Goetz will be the celebrant. The Des Moines County Resurrection Choir will provide music. A memorial has been established for the Building Fund of First United Methodist Church, 421 Washington St., Burlington, IA 52601. Cremation will be accorded following the visitation.
