Mr. Alvin E. Gehrke, 87, of Green Bay, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on Saturday, January 12, 2013. Alvin was born May 27, 1925, in Seymour to the late Elmer and Erna Gehrke. On February 23, 1952, he married Ruth Borchardt in the Town of Seymour. Alvin worked for many years at Northwest Engineering until his retirement. He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church in Green Bay where he served as a long time usher and spent many hours serving in many other capacities. Alvin enjoyed hunting, fishing, being a member of the Green Bay Area Great Lakes Sports Fishermen, camping, boating, traveling in Europe, attending UW Green Bay men's and women's basketball games, making home made wine, and spending time with his family. He will be sadly missed by his children and grandchildren. ri; sister-in-law, Carol (Borchardt) and Herman Maas; brother-in-law, Bruce Schiller; step brother and wife, Philip and Jan Heuser, and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruth, of 47 years; his mother and father, Elmer and Erna (Trost) Gehrke; step-father, Ray Heuser; two sisters, Helen Hildebrant and Glenda Schiller; step-brothers, William and Robert Heuser; step-sisters, Joyce Melotte and Dorthy Zanskas; and brother-in-law, John Pemper. Visitation will be held at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, Green Bay, from 4-8 pm, Wednesday, January 16, 2013. Visitation continues on Thursday, January 17, from 10-11 am at Calvary Lutheran Church, 1301 S. Ridge Road, Green Bay, followed by the funeral service at 11 am, with Rev. Earl Vorpagel III officiating. Burial will take place at the Emmanuel Lutheran Cemetery in Seymour. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lyndahl.com. A memorial fund has been established in Alvin's name. The Alvin Gehrke family expresses their most sincere thank you and appreciation for the care he received at Fourth Floor Bellin Hospital medical unit, and Unity Hospice. Our family especially gives our loving thanks and appreciation to Anna Strong for helping care for Alvin during his final months.
