Robert Dean Younge, 71, of Hampton, Iowa, passed away Friday, January 18, 2013, at Mercy Medical Center North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa. He was born on September 11, 1941, in Thornton, Iowa, to Luther and Margaret (Oelkers) Younge. Robert graduated from High School in Thornton in 1960, and attended Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Minnesota. He was united in marriage to Lona Schroeder on September 15, 1968, at the United Presbyterian Church in Garner; to this union four children were born, Aeric, Marcus, Chad and Heather. Robert was a grain and livestock farmer for twenty-three years; he loved farming and working with his cattle. Robert was a steward of the land. Along with farming, he was a deputy sheriff, a realtor, worked for the Co-op in Buckeye and in Hampton, worked for BSA Auto and was in the National Guard. Robert invented and manufactured Simple Lift for grain augers and built small livestock trailers. He was a member of the Richland Evangelical Lutheran Church in Thornton, where he was a Sunday School Teacher. ember and was active with the Franklin County Republican Committee. He enjoyed gardening, taking care of his lawn, carpentry and square dancing with Lona. Robert is survived by his wife Lona Younge of Hampton, son Aeric (Tammy) Younge and their children Adam and Aaron of Hayfield, Minnesota, son Marcus (Robin) Younge and their children Courtney and Sydney of Ventura, son Chad (Shannon) Younge and their children Brayden, Brinn and new baby girl of Wellman, Iowa, Heathers' son Colton of Chillicothe, Missouri, brother Gary (Bonnie) Younge of Thornton, sister Mary (Alan) Hansen of Lake Crystal, Minnesota, brother Ronald (Mary) Younge of Mankato, Minnesota, sister Barbara Younge of Rochester, Minnesota, along with many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his daughter Heather in July of 2006, parents Luther and Margaret, father and mother-in-law Alvin and Lula Schroeder and sister-in-law Marilyn Schroeder. Burial will take place in the Hampton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the Younge Scholarship Fund at Bethany Lutheran College in Mankato, Lutherans for Life or Hospice of North Iowa.
