Lawrence N. Greiner, 80, of Silver City, passed away Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the Risen Son Christian Village in Council Bluffs. Mass of Christian burial will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday, January 26, 2013 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church with Father Vern Smith officiating. Interment in the Glenwood Catholic Cemetery with military honors conducted by the Silver City American Legion. Visitation will be Friday, January 25, 2013 at Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with a rosary at 7:00 p.m. and a scripture service to follow. Memorials suggested to Silver City American Legion, Southwest Iowa Hospice or Alzheimer's Research. Lawrence N. Greiner one of nine children of Nicholas and Mary Bauer Greiner was born on January 15, 1933 in Portsmouth, Iowa. He attended rural country school up until the 8th grade. Following school he worked construction for Henningson Construction Company in Atlantic. He worked until he was drafted in the Unites States Army where he served during the Korean War. ack to the Council Bluffs area where he worked for the city bus company in Council Bluffs. A couple years later he took a job working at International Harvester in Omaha. On June 2, 1956 he married Belva Jane Cheney in Imogene, Iowa. The couple started farming in the Red Oak area in 1959. In February 1967 the couple moved to the farm northeast of Silver City. Lawrence and Belva were blessed with six children, Randy, Rodney, Donald, Debra, Delinda and Roger. Lawrence enjoyed tractor pulls, watching NASCAR, enjoyed watching stock car races in Corning. He was very articulate about the farm and his lawn, always making sure it was in pristine condition. Most of all he was a devoted husband, loving father and caring grandfather and great grandfather. Lawrence was a member of Our Lady of the Holy Rosary Church, Knights of Columbus and Silver City American Legion. Lawrence is survived by his wife of 56 years, Belva, of Silver City; sons, Randy (Lorri) Greiner of Malvern, Rodney (Ronda) Greiner of Silver City, Donald (Holly) Greiner of Silver City and Roger ( Mary) Greiner of Glenwood; daughters, Debra (Jay) Lynch of Lafayette, CO and Delinda (David) Straatman of Boonville, MO; 17 grandchildren, 2 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister Mildred Weihs of Council Bluffs; many nieces and nephews and a host of friends. He is preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, 3 sisters, grandson Alexander Lynch and step-grandson Jake North. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Glenwood in charge of arrangements.
