James Myers was born July 9, 1923, the son of Joe and Mayme (Conway) Myers in Emmetsburg, Iowa. He was educated in country grade school and was a 1941 graduate of Emmetsburg High School. Following his education, he served in the United States Navy during World War II. Jim was united in marriage to Helen Beaver on September 13, 1948 at St. Thomas Catholic Church in Emmetsburg, IA. To this union, eleven children were born. The couple farmed east of Graettinger and southeast of Emmetsburg before retiring and moving to Emmetsburg. Jim was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church and the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 2295 of Emmetsburg. Jim was one to always stay busy. He enjoyed golfing, playing cards and taking trips to Texas. Most of all, Jim enjoyed the time he spent with his children and grandchildren. On Friday, October 20, 2006, Jim passed away at the Palo Alto County Hospital in Emmetsburg. Jim was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Everett and Robert; daughter-in-law, Marsha Myers and brother-in-law, Bud Jevyak.
