Violet Opal Chism was born August 29, 1927, in Ayrshire, Iowa, the daughter of J.B. and Myrtle (Ruby) Morgan. She attended country school near Ayrshire, Iowa. Violet married William Hough and to this union, three children were born. Later, Violet married Maurice Smith and the couple lived in Emmetsburg. Several years later, Violet married Howard Chism of Cylinder, Iowa. The two of them farmed outside of Cylinder. She loved raising livestock and being on the farm. She was a chef at the Iowa Lakes Community College in Emmetsburg, and she managed the Cylinder Restaurant for many years. Violet was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church and the V.F.W. Ladies Auxiliary. Violet is survived by two daughters: Norma Dyson (Donald) of Albia, Iowa and Trish Goettsch (Kirby) of Aberdeen, South Dakota; one son, Jerry Hough (Julie) of Ottumwa, Iowa; 11 grandchildren: Vickie DeTar (Stacy), Tonya Dyson, Jeremy Hough (Cody), Jerad Hough, Jodie Callas (Dustin), Matthew Steven (Joanna), Jillian Truesdell (Patrick), Chelsea Peter, Whitney Peter, Kevin Dyson (Wendy), and Wendy Stuhr (Lyall); and 16 great-grandchildren: Deven, Colton and Elizabeth DeTar, Kati...[more]
