Lloyd Omer Strand was born December 16, 1925 in Cylinder, Iowa the son of Art and Irene (Oneson) Strand. He attended Cylinder Schools. Following his education, Lloyd served in the United States Army during WWII, where he was awarded a Purple Heart. Lloyd was united in marriage to Irene Jacobson, on July 6, 1947 at St. John's Lutheran Church, Depew. To this union, five sons and a daughter were born. The couple farmed north of Depew for 17 years before moving to Spirit Lake, Iowa, where Lloyd worked for Berkley's. They spent 20 years there, eight years in Terril, and the past several years were spent in Emmetsburg. Lloyd was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, V.F.W. Post 2295 and Sons' of Norway. He enjoyed woodworking, making toys and rocking horses, playing cards, dancing and spending time with grandchildren. His favorite pastime was fishing, and he won several angler awards throughout his lifetime. On Thursday, January 3, 2008, Lloyd passed away at Avera Hospital in Spencer, Iowa. wife, Nancy of Round Lake Beach, IL and Ron and wife, Renee of Spirit Lake; her daughter, Nancy Fear and husband, Dan of Milford; a brother, Irvin Strand and wife, Eleanor of Mission, TX; three sisters: Mary Mausehund of Mason City, IA, Bette Legler and husband, Victor of Mason City, IA and Doris Paulsen and husband, Orville of Storm Lake, IA; 18 grand-children and seven great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents and wife, Irene and two infant grandsons.
