John LeRoy "Butch" Leuer was born August 9, 1931 in Mallard, Iowa, the son of LeRoy and Evelyn (Kunz) Leuer. He attended Mallard Community Schools. In January of 1953, John was drafted into the United States Army serving during the Korean War. On May 10, 1958, John was united in marriage to Louise Decker at Assumption Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. They farmed near Mallard a few years, before moving west of Emmetsburg to Louise's family farm where they have lived for 48 years. John was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church in Emmetsburg. He was a hardworking man who instilled a great work ethic in his children. He loved to farm and ride his Harley Davidson. John enjoyed flying his airplane over his farm to check his crops, and later in life, he enjoyed slow drives along his farm just enjoying the view. John's favorite pastime was get-togethers with his children and grandchildren. On Wednesday, June 20, 2012, John passed away at his home. He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Mary Roberts and his nephew, Brian Wilson.
