Evelyn Petersen

Evelyn Veronica Petersen was born January 27, 1927 in Graettinger, Iowa, the daughter of James and Alice (Bradley) Mahan. She attended country school near Graettinger and Graettinger High School. On May 26, 1947, Evelyn was united in marriage to Dennis Petersen at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Graettinger. Evelyn raised her children, and later, she enjoyed working at Vande Café and Lyon's Bakery in Estherville. She also enjoyed being a daycare provider for many years. Evelyn enjoyed sewing and crocheting. She made over 50 afghans, and many were donated to area fundraising events. Evelyn baked a unique banana bread ring that was a welcomed gift for any occasion. She treasured her family and spending time with all of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. On Friday, August 17, 2012, Evelyn passed away at Rosewood Manor in Estherville, Iowa. She was 85. Her second family was her daycare children. Evelyn was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Dennis; an infant son; two sisters: Rosella Loder and Francis Munden; four grandchildren: Lacey Petersen, James and Jennifer Domek and Rachael Petersen; and her daughter-in-law, Denise Petersen.
