Virginia Mae Wilcox, one of seven children of Gladys Maude (Herrick) and David Edward Kemp, was born on May 7, 1928 in Mills County, Iowa. She grew up in Glenwood, Iowa area and graduated from Glenwood High School in 1947. Virginia and Lee Warren Wilcox were married on February 3, 1946 in Glenwood. Their marriage was blessed with three daughters, Jolene, Iola, and Shari. Virginia was an active member of the Glenwood First Congregational United Church of Christ. She was a member of the Dorcas Circle, Glenwood Professional Business Women's Club, worked at the Glenwood election poles, and helped with meals on wheels in Glenwood. Virginia loved to sew and would make outfits for her girls, which usually matched or were the same, only in different colors. Virginia also embroidered dish towels, raising flowers, canned vegetables and fruits, and loved hanging laundry on the outdoor clotheslines. Other enjoyments were dancing with Lee, listening to music, the older songs mostly (definitely didn't like rock 'n roll), working on puzzles, and playing Carrom and other board games. States, and summer trips were spent with family. Virginia had a great passion for cooking and shopping (shoes, purses, and jewelry, what girl wouldn't). She loved spending time with her family and grandchildren, which were her pride and joy. Virginia was a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great grandmother. Virginia and Lee were married 61 years when Lee passed away on March 30, 2007 in Council Bluffs, Iowa. In April 2012, due to declining health, Virginia moved to Hospice with Heart in Glenwood. She passed away there on February 17, 2013, at the age of 84 years, 9 months, and 10 days. She was preceded in death by her parents; beloved husband Lee; sister Betty Pompano; and brothers, Glenn Kemp and Charles Kemp. Virginia is survived by her daughters, Jolene Justus and husband John of Kansas City, MO, Iola Lawrence and husband Kevin, and Shari Hansen and husband Erik, all of Omaha, NE; grandchildren, Jennifer Techau, Mandy Whitsitt, Ryan Strand, Angela Ferris, Leah Brisbois, Tommy Lawrence, Matt Lawrence, and Kiki Knox; twelve great grandchildren; brothers, David Kemp Jr of Hanford, CA, Jon Kemp of Prince George, BC, Canada, and Richard Kemp of Glenwood; several nieces and nephews; other relatives; and a host of friends. Memorial are suggested to the Hospice with Heart - Glenwood. Loess Hills Funeral Home of Glenwood in charge of arrangements.
