Lucille Gladys (Grussing) Thom was born on October 26, 1934, in Rost Township, Minnesota to Louis and Anna (Rademacher) Grussing. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Rost Township. She graduated from Okabena High School in 1952.
Lucille and Ronald J Thom were united in marriage on April 26, 1953 at St. Paul Lutheran Church. This marriage was blessed with five children, Carol, Cindy, Darrell, Stanley, & Randal. Lucy worked a variety of jobs in the Windom and Jackson area. Ronald passed away on July 10, 1988. Lucy continued to live at their home on Fish Lake.
Lucy loved to cook, bake buns, make desserts, and enjoyed canning and freezing vegetables and fruits. Her freezers were always filled with "goodies" to share with others. For the past 10 years, she and Palmer spent many hours together in the kitchen -- the favorite room in her home, cooking and stitching the squares for the quilts they made. Her sense of humor and caring personality will always be remembered.
Lucille passed away on Sunday morning, July 5, 2009 at her home with her family and loving friend by her side at the age of 74.
She is survived by her loving friend, Palmer Luitjens of Windom; four children, Carol Schenk and her husband, Randy, of Windom, Cindy Clark and her husband, Merlin, of Phoenix, AZ, Stanley Thom and his fiancée, Angie, of Elk River, and Randal Thom of Rochester; 8 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Bauman of Lakefield and Edith Gentry of Prior Lake; and many other relatives and friends.
She is preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ronald; son, Darrell Thom; grandson, Ryan Thom; two brothers, Loren and George Grussing; and four sisters, Frieda Grussing, Tillie Osterkamp, Mary Holmberg, & Laura Hessemann.
Blessed be the memory of Lucille "Lucy" Thom.
