"I met Jaon in training for United and fell in love with her then! You knew she was special from the moment you met her, and when I went home with her to meet the family, I knew why! I felt like I was one of them! She showed me her New York, and I loved every minute of it! We were roommates a couple of times and she gave me some of the best memories of living in Chicago! Oh My, the stories! I again met up with Joan flying out of DC after 25 years of not being in contact...it was like we'd talked the day before! I'm so happy that you were my friend...I'm sure your positive attitude influences me daily! Just part of the goodness you left behind....I love you and will feel your love everyday....I miss your face already!"

"The tears I am shedding, after learning of Joan's passing tonight, are a tribute to a beautiful soul. We shared many wonderful moments together, laughing, engaging in conversations about life, love, and happiness. While I haven't seen her for over 10 years, learning of her loss makes the world seem less vibrant for me. I found my true love before Joan did, and she was so happy for me. Gerry, I lost her a few years ago, so I hate knowing that you too have a broken heart. I only hope that Joan's memory helps to heal you, knowing that you, like me, were one of the lucky ones. With love and sadness, I wish Joan love, peace, and rest."

"Most generous daughter of light and love
Child of a "Ray" of sunlight and the "Glo" of life
Wife of a wise wonder
whose light shines brighter
reflects her joyous spirit
and mindful will
Aunt of the treasures
she polished them duly
Still from her works they shine
Sister of sweetness
her intercession blessed
her legacy - divine
All who were near her, with her, or for her
Let duty abide and she will be near"

"Woman was made from the rib of man.
Not from his head to top him,
Nor from his feet to be stepped upon.
But from his side to be close to him.
Under his arm to be protected by him.
Near his heart to be loved by him.
Joan taught me to love and to be loved.
She was my wife, my love, my life !
Thank you all for your thoughts, prayers, kind words and support."

"God put people in our lives for a reason... I remember the first time i met Joan, she had the brightest smile ever. God has blessed me with a couple of months to witness true strength, Her strength is her undying love for her family and friends, along with her selflessness... At the very end of life's journey she said " living is hard, dying is easy..The only hard part about it is knowing you're leaving your loved ones behind "
To a great friend who taught me so much. You will be missed and I love you :-("

"Long ago memories, now fresh in my mind... Of little Brentwood cousins at Nana and Pa's for some sort of celebration. Little Neck and Westmorland with Nana's potato salad and cold cuts from the German deli. Coins from Pa's bank and more from Nana's coin purse. Good times with a loving family. I'm so saddened at Joan's passing. Heartfelt sympathy and sweet memories. Cousin Janice"

"I have countless memories of Joan.
â?¢ The first time I saw her, more than 40 years ago she was tossing rowboats into a lake. I thought, what an awesome young woman.
â?¢ The countless weekends she spent in my apartment when she was in high school and college.
â?¢ Her sense of style
â?¢ Her modeling for the scuba industry
â?¢ Her infectious smile and laugh
â?¢ Her pearly white teeth
â?¢ Her devotion to her family
â?¢ Her good nature and disposition
â?¢ Her meeting me in Istanbul having touched down in four continents in 24 hours
â?¢ Our trips to Costco
â?¢ The wonderful week we recently spent in Sonoma
She was a dear and wonderful friend, the marvelous Ms. Joan who I will sorely miss.

"Dear Jerry, I am so so sad to hear about Joan. She was so awesome! I remember the many nights spent at your house and all the lifeguarding races we went to together. Joan was always there with her laughter and positive energy and I remember thinking as a young woman, WOW, I want to be more like her. She taught me so many things, how to cook an easy chicken pot pie, of which I have passed on to all my friends, How to make anyone feel comfortable at someone elses house. She also was such a wonderful Auntie. When I had my girls she treated them like they were her own. And I know how much she loved her family. I remember those pictures of her hugging her little darlings. So Jerry, and Joans family I want you to know how much she will be missed. Aloha Joan Aloha"

She had a warmth and grace that I'm sure touched and affected countless people throughout the world even they only encountered for a few moments on their travels. Geneva and Vanessa and I love her truly and will miss her terribly. "
