John F. Miller III (Jack) died peacefully in his Ft. Lauderdale home on October 3rd, 2013 of natural causes. He was 91. Jack, a native Washingtonian was born on December 27th, 1921. He was the only child of Bertha and John F. Miller Jr. Jack attended Lafayette grade school and Woodrow Wilson High School. During WWII, Jack served in the Navy in the Pacific Theater/Philippines and forward areas as an officer on an LST. Jack graduated from the University of North Carolina after returning from the war. During this time, Jack met and married Patsy Callicott of Arkansas in 1947 and the couple had three children. In 1947, with little more than a pocket full of dollars and a pickup truck, Jack and James Long co-founded Miller and Long Concrete Construction Company.
Jack was a husband, father, veteran, grandfather, business man, pilot, yachter- he was a renaissance man-a man for all seasons. Jack's generosity and kindness touched a multitude-all those that were blessed to be in his circle of affection. His wry sense of humor provided comical respite and a lifetime of wonderful memories. When Jack said "don't get old" he meant it. When Jack said "write when you find work" he meant it. He is greatly missed by his loving family and friends.
Jack is survived by: His son Dan M. Miller and his wife Victoria of Key Largo, Florida, a daughter Cynthia Miller and granddaughters Christine and Jacqueline Miller.
He was predeceased by Patsy Miller in 2004 and Linda Miller in 2010 and a son, John F. Miller II in 1970. A private service is planned. In lieu of flowers the family is asking all memorial donations be made to: Melmark Foundation, 2600 Wayland Road, Berwyn, PA 19312.
