Geraldine "Gerry" (DiMarco) Hughes of Hollywood, Florida, formerly of Pompton Lakes, New Jersey passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, October 27, 2013.
Born in Nutley, New Jersey on July 3, 1937, daughter of Benjamin and Marie (DeFedericis) DiMarco. Gerry graduated from Nutley Senior High School, then joined the United States Army following the Korean War where she received her nursing education at The Army Medical Service School. She was discharged in 1957 due a medical disability. The recently widowed mother, Geraldine Goff returned to Nutley and entered Essex County College where she began the trek from Medical Assistant to Registered Nurse and Office Manager with several specialty certifications in cardiac medicine.
For more that 40 years, she worked in cardiac private practice with Dr. Roger Lochhead and then Dr. John DeFilippo in Glen Ridge, NJ. Following her retirement, she and her husband Thomas R. Hughes, moved to South Florida in 2002 and became very active in the community, working with the BSO Citizen's Watch, member of the DAV South Florida Chapter 41 where she was past Commander. She was a member of the Tri-City Lions Club, Italian/American Civic League where attended many dinner dances and events.
Survived by her son, James Goff and his wife Sharon, granddaughter Veronica Goff, grandson Benjamin Goff and wife Carla and her sister, Susan Rossi and husband John and 2 nephews John Rossi Jr. and Michael Rossi. Geraldine is also survived by her 3 step-sons, Thomas R. Hughes Jr. his wife Gail and their 3 sons, Chris, Jonathan, & Jeffery Hughes. Ron Hughes, his wife Rosemary, their son Brian Hughes and Don Hughes his wife Joan with their son Michael and daughter Jacqueline.
Visitation on Wednesday, October 30th from 5:00 ~ 7:00 P.M. with a service beginning at 7:00 P.M. with military honors at the Fred Hunter's Hollywood Home, 6301 Taft Street Hollywood. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. There will be an additional service in her home town Nutley, New Jersey where she will be laid to rest at Holy Cross Cemetery in North Arlington, New Jersey.
