Joseph J. Peterka
April 15, 1916 - November 10, 2013

Joseph Peterka, of Antigo, died Sunday, November 10, 2013 at Langlade Hospital. He was 97 years old. He was born on April 15, 1916 in Chicago, Illinois a son of Louis and Veronica (Jambor) Peterka, Sr.. He married Margaret Halambeck on September 25, 1948 at St. Wencel Catholic Church in Neva. She survives.

He served with the fifth armored tank division with the United States Army having fought from Normandy, France to Berlin, Germany during WWII. Following service and marriage he worked at Allis Chalmers in Milwaukee for eight years.

In 1954 Mr. Peterka purchased a farm in the Town of Peck. He and his wife operated the farm for 44 years retiring in 1998. They moved to Antigo in retirement.

He enjoyed dancing and fishing.

Survivors including his wife are many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, three sisters, Anna Chmela, Pauline Kotleba, and Irene Hilger; three brothers Stephen, Louis, Jr. and Charles Peterka.

A funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday at 12:00 noon at St. Wencel Catholic Church with Rev. Jeremiah Worman officiating. Burial will take place in the parish cemetery where Antigo Veterans will conduct military rights.

Visitation will be 4 - 7 p.m. on Tuesday at the Bradley Funeral Home and 10:30 - 11:30 a.m. on Wednesday also at the funeral home.

A parish wake service will be held at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
