July 13, 1953 - January 7, 2014

Laurie Lucht Myers died Tuesday January 7th, 2014 at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames of breast cancer. A gathering of friends and family will be from 5:00- 7:00 p.m. on Thursday January 9th,at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care, 414 Lincoln Way, Ames with a celebration of life funeral service at 11:00 a.m. on Friday January 10th, at the Episcopal Church, 2338 Lincoln Way in Ames. Laurie was born July 13, 1953 to Anne M. and Arthur W. Lucht. The family moved to Ames in 1958. She attended Roosevelt Elementary School, Central Junior High School, and Welch Junior High School in ninth grade. She graduated from Ames High School in 1971. Laurie married Robert K. Myers in 1974. After attending DMACC in Boone she transferred to Iowa State University. Laurie graduated from ISU with a BA in elementary education. She worked at numerous retail clothing stores in the Ames area before opening her own children's clothing store, Callie's Corner. She owned and operated the Main Street store for over ten years. After closing the store, she moved on to work in the Ames Community School system. She began volunteering with English as a second language students before moving into the educational assistant sub list. Laurie and Bob have two children, Elizabeth (Beth) A. Skluzacek and Robert ( Bobby) W. Myers. Survivors include her husband, Bob, children, Beth and her husband Mark Skluzacek and children Landon and Parker, and son Bobby Myers. She is preceded in death by her parents, Anne and Art Lucht, and her brother, Walter K. Lucht. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Ames Educational Foundation.
