Delmore J Verpoorten
December 12, 1934 - March 10, 2014

Delmore J. Verpoorten,of Antigo, died Monday, March 10, 2014 at KHTCR-Eastview. He was 79 years old. He was born on December 12, 1934 in Hogarty, a son of the late James and Violet (Hitt) Verpoorten. He married Bonnie Ewert on November 5, 1954 in Pine City, Minnesota. She preceded him in death on March 31, 2012.

He attended New Dells Grade School and Birnamwood High School.

Mr. Verpoorten served in the United States Army from 1955 to 1958 and remained in the Army Reserves until 1962.

He was employed at Lockwood in Antigo for eight years and at Amron for 16 years retiring in 1996.

Mr. Verpoorten enjoyed being the caretaker of Bent Cemetery in Bryant for six years.

He was a member of Calvary Lutheran Church, Antigo and the Sparks-Doernenburg American Legion Post 3, Antigo having served as Commander.

Survivors include a daughter, Leiloni (David) Koszarek of Antigo; three grandchildren, Peter (Becky) Koszarek of Milwaukee, Melissa (Lee) Clark of Rhinelander and Amy (Dan) Stanchik of Wausau; four great-grandchild, Jocelyn and Riley Stanchik, Ava Koszarek and Ryder Clark; a sister, Dorothy (Percy) Gardner of Wausau; and a brother, Ralph (Loretta) Verpoorten of San Angelo, TX.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a daughter in infancy; a grandson, Tony Koszarek; a brother, Lawrence Verpoorten; and a sister, Helen Stone.

A funeral service will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at Calvary Lutheran Church with Rev. Karen Tews officiating. Burial will take place in Queen of Peace Cemetery where Antigo veterans will conduct military honors. Visitation will be Friday from 9:30 am until the time of service at the church.
