John Albert DeFore
March 25, 1923 - April 2, 2014

John DeFore, of Ames, passed away April 2, 2014, at Rolling Green Nursing Home in Nevada, Iowa. John was born at Mary Greeley Hospital on March 25, 1923, to Charles and Anna DeFore and lived most of his life in the Ames area. He retired from the Post Office in 1985 from a long career as a carrier.
John is survived by one sister, Mary Offenstein of Hardy, Virginia as well as 7 nieces; Rayma DeFore, Ann Culver, Robin Robinson, Kim Bettis, Kay Anderson, Kathy Young, and Becky Reed, and 4 nephews; Dick Kelso, David Kelso, Mike Kelso, and Tim Offenstein.
A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on May 5, 2014 at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care located at 414 Lincoln Way in Ames followed by a graveside service at the Ames Municipal Cemetery. Following the services, a lunch will be served at the First Christian Church in Ames.

"I will always have fond memories of Johnny. He trained me as a mail carrier and helped me survive my first few years at the Ames Post Office. In his last year we shared our love of cats when I visited him with my boys Yoga and Singer. Rest in furry peace, Johnny!"
