WAPELLO, Iowa--'Dee' Dwight Douglas Walker, 69, of rural Morning Sun, died Wednesday, May 7, 2014, at Trinity Hospital in Rock Island, Illinois.

Funeral Service will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Monday, May 12, 2014, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello. Pastor Dan Doolin will officiate. Burial will take place in Harrison Cemetery, rural Wapello.

Visitation will be from 4 until 6 p.m. on Sunday, May 11, 2014, at the funeral home. A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the Iowa Trappers Association.

Dwight was born on January 30, 1945, in Burlington, the son of Custer Monroe and Neva Lucille Buchanan Walker. Dee graduated from Wapello High School in 1963. He married 'Evie' Evelyn Dell Underwood on July 11, 1964, in Wapello.

He worked at Rath Packing in Columbus Junction for 18 years. He then was self-employed in farming, commercial fishing, turtle trapping and farming, and operated D & E Fur & Root where he established Red Minnows.

He belonged to FFA in high school. He was a lifetime member of the Iowa Trappers Association and National Trappers Association, the NRA, and North American Hunting Club. He was a member of the Turtle Association, Arizona Trappers Association, and the FAA. He was among the first American trappers to go to Russia in 1991. He was an avid horseshoe player, hunter, fisherman, trapper, and modern day Mountain Man.

His family includes his wife, Evie Walker; three children, Wade and Ramona Walker of Morning Sun, Brenda & Jimmy Millard of Birmingham, and Kathy and Jim Wiegand of Oquawka, Illinois; 10 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; three brothers, Sam Walker of Morning Sun, Larry Walker of Wapello, and Tom Walker of Morning Sun; a sister, Lila Connolly of Wapello; and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.
