Richard "Mike" Hugunin
September 14, 1947 - July 15, 2014

Richard Michael "Mike" Hugunin, aged 66, of Antigo, died Tuesday, July 15, 2014 at home after a brief illness. He was under the care of his family and LeRoyer Hospice. Mike was born on September 14, 1947, in Madison, Wisconsin, the only son of the late Richard Woodrow Hugunin of Hudson Street and Eleanor (Flanagan) Hugunin of Elm Street, both natives of Antigo.
He married Joyce McDonough on April 4, 1987 in Upper Marlboro, Maryland.
Mr. Hugunin grew up in Sparrow's Point, Maryland. He graduated from Archbishop Curley High School in Baltimore, Maryland, and attended the University of Maryland at College Park.
He was a long-time resident of Prince George's County, Maryland, where he served as Deputy Sheriff with the Prince George's County Sheriff's Department and as a police officer with the Prince George's County Police Department. He retired from police work and returned to live in Antigo in 2001.
He served on the Board of Directors of Antigo Trout Unlimited and was a member of the Antigo Blue Line Club.
He was an Eagle Scout, loved the outdoors, fly fishing, hunting and camping. He played hockey for the University of Maryland, was a long time coach at all levels of youth hockey and was an avid fan of the Montreal Canadiens.
In addition to his wife, Joyce, he is survived by his daughter, Kelly Hugunin of California; four sons, Patrick, Timothy, and Michael Hugunin of Antigo, WI, and Raymond Bunner of Maryland; grandson Max Royston Brown of California; twin sisters, Jane Hugunin Kay of Virginia and Jean Hugunin Mallis of Maryland; and first wife, Patricia McClung Slaski of Virginia.
Private family services will be held.
In lieu of flowers, contributions in his name could be made to the Antigo Chapter of Trout Unlimited or the Antigo Blue Line Club.
Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered in his name at SS Mary & Hyacinth Catholic Church at 7:30 am on August 20, 2014
