"Clem was my roommate freshman year at Penn. He was focused student. He went home most weekends and brought back a six pack of root beer each and would religiously drink only one each night. He loved engineering and his family and baseball. "

Steven Kass wrote on Nov 13, 2014:

"I was a fraternity brother of Clem's at Kappa Alpha at the University of Pennsylvania. I just learned of Clem's passing in the Pennsylvania Gazette. I was so sorry to hear. Clem was a wonderful person, and I was fortunate to see him for a brief time about a year ago as KA at Penn had a gathering to celebrate its 100th year on the Penn campus. My deepest condolences to his family and all who loved him. May his memory be a blessing to you. Steven Kass Miami, Florida"

"I worked with Clem at Allan Collautt Associates. One Saturday a co-worker and I went to Atlantic City to play poker. We met at ACA and left one car in the parking lot. We got back early Sunday morning. Clem's car was in the parking lot and the light was on in the office. On Monday I asked what he was doing at ACA at 1am on Sunday morning, and he said he was crunching baseball statistics! I will miss Clem greatly."

Dave Fowler wrote on Aug 11, 2014:

"My sincere condolences to Clem's family. I worked with Clem for 13 years at the Allan Collautt Associates. To say that Clem was brilliant does not begin to cover it. If Clem said something was so then you did not need to "google" it. But more importantly he would take time out and share that knowledge and understanding at any moment to explain anything that did not make sense no matter whether you had worked there a day or a decade. Clem was friendly and funny and most importantly kind. He told great stories. He made us laugh. He listened when you were having a rotten day and would impart some small bit of perspective that made that day better. After I moved to Texas he would send me patriotic remembrances and stories about the men and women who serve our country that quite often made me realize my problems did not amount to a hill of beans. Everybody talks sports, but when Clem talked sports and particularly baseball then if you had a lick of sense you listened. He was not griping about a dropped ball or a bad call but instead brought intense study and reason to bear on the game. I will miss Clem. Dave Fowler "

"We send our sincere sympathies and fond aloha to Mary, Kay and Mrs. Comly. Clem was a great friend, and he is remembered fondly by our entire family and by Hawaii friends who came to know him during his trips to Honolulu. He was always a gentleman, scholar, and a loyal friend...dating back to elementary school. We are so sorry to hear of his passing. You are in our thoughts and prayers."

David Raglin wrote on Aug 11, 2014:

"I have many fond memories of Clem at SABR conventions and when he attended the regional meetings in Washington. He was a good guy to hang out with and talk baseball. We will miss him!"

Ed Kay wrote on Aug 11, 2014:

"My wife and I extend our condolences to the Comly family. Other than reading through Clem's contributions to SABR, it's been a few years since I've seen or talked to Clem, but I remember our annual trips to Lancaster in the eighties, when I lived in Pennsylvania. I remember the rapport we built through our love of baseball, and the fun we had competing in our APBA league. Clem was always kind, helpful and a font of knowledge on a variety of subjects. We will miss him."

Sean Forman wrote on Aug 10, 2014:

"I knew Clem through his love of baseball. I had the chance to watch several games with him at the pressbox at Citizens Bank Park. Clem also was quick offer help or suggestions for our website and his fact checking and research contributions to our knowledge of pre-war baseball were substantial. He will be dearly missed by all of his friends at SABR."

"I played bridge with Clem after Lola moved to Florida. We would play at the Dupont Country Club in Wilmington, but our partnership never took off the way his did with Lola. Occasionally, I would see Clem shopping at the Acme in Media, since we both lived in Wallingford. Hugs, Ala."
