Alene LaNeta Templeton was born on November 23, 1932 in Maquoketa, Iowa, to Kent and LaNeta (Hute) Templeton. She was educated at the Welton school. She married William K. "Bill" Simons on December 31, 1949 in Maquoketa, Iowa. He preceded her in death on July 18, 2001.
Alene raised five children and through the years had also worked as a waitress for area restaurants, egg handler for Hoffman Eggs, and for the creamery in Welton. Additionally, she and her late husband Bill had worked at flea markets selling homemade products. They had also built several homes and then sold them, long before the practice of "flipping" houses was popular.
Alene enjoyed staying very busy. She enjoyed tatting, bowling, crocheting, crafts and sewing. She liked working outside and especially enjoyed playing board games with her grandchildren. She was an avid bingo player and was known for always preparing a big feast during the holidays.
Those left to honor Alene's memory include her daughters, Debra (Dean) Tillis of Stockton, IL, Nina (Roy) Buff of Casar, NC, and Teresa Simons of Delmar, IA; 14 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; a sister Judy (Art) Jones of Maquoketa, IA; and brothers Fay (Virginia) Templeton of DeWitt, IA, Gary (Denise) Templeton of Spokane, WA, Larry (Debra) Templeton of Maquoketa, IA and Lee (Beverly) Templeton of Clarence, IA. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, 2 sons Terry and Dennis, 4 brothers Gerald, Roy, Ronnie and Gene, and an infant great-grandchild Jaxson Bell.
In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, an Alene L. Simons memorial fund has been established.
