In loving memory of

Douglas Eugene Blomgren
April 13, 1959 - September 2, 2014

Douglas Eugene Blomgren

Doug went to be with the Lord on the morning of September 2, 2014. Doug's battle with cancer came to a peaceful end holding the hand of his beautiful wife Christine. Doug spent his final days resting at Mercy Hospice in Johnston, Iowa.
Doug was born to Bob (Robert) and June Blomgren in Boone, Iowa, on April 13, 1959. Doug and Julienne were happily married for 25 years and together built a family of 6 and a seed business in the community of Boone. After Julienne passed in 2005, Doug considered himself incredibly blessed to meet Christine. Doug was diagnosed in the winter of 2009 with melanoma and told he had a short 9 months to live. Doug was not one to be told what to do and had plans to travel and enjoy his time with Christine. Over the past 4.5 years, Doug and Christine have traveled coast-to-coast, climbed mountains and sat by the ocean.
Doug shared a deep faith and significant involvement in his local church. He often lamented that although he was excited to meet Jesus, he was enjoying his relationship with Christine and participating in the work the church is doing locally and globally.
Doug was preceded in death by his father Robert Blomgren, wife Julienne Blomgren, mother-in-law Joyce Safly, nephew David Blomgren, and friend Bob Green. Doug is survived by his mother June Blomgren of Boone, wife Christine Blomgren of Ankeny, his six children: Jennifer Ciha (Tom) of Ankeny, Sean Blomgren (Katie) of Boone, Sarah Blomgren of Boone, Josh Blomgren of Boone, Stephanie Blomgren of Rockford, IL, James Robert Blomgren of Boone. His siblings Mike Blomgren (Ellie) of San Diego, Ca., Richard Blomgren (Barb) of Boone, Cathy Smith (Brian) of Boone.
Grandchildren Grant and Emily Ciha of Ankeny, Hunter Blomgren of Boone, Jayden Bryan of Boone.
Doug, speaking about the end of his life, passed along a simple message, "Please do not weep in sorrow for me; I have lived life abundantly as promised by my God, and now I will live life eternally as promised by that same God. Celebrate my life, and even more so, celebrate the promise of eternity."
A gathering of families will be held at the Blomgren Family Farm Sunday afternoon September 7 from 2-5 p.m. (1927 250th Street Boone, Iowa 50036)
A celebration of life will be held at Oakwood Road Church on September 8, at 10:30 am, with lunch to follow. Interment will be held privately.

"Cousin Doug - how we will miss you and the kind of person you were (and by God's grace still are)! Your joy and desire - not only by talk - but by actions to make this world a better place for the people around you is something I will never forget and that still makes me want to improve as a person. We're happy to know that your legacy, memories and the results of your way of living will live on through your loved ones and your church...
