Winfred "Winnie" Cernoch
November 1, 1924 - October 6, 2014

Winfred "Winnie" Cernoch, of Antigo, died Monday, October 6, 2014 at Eastview Medical and Rehabilitation Center. He was 89 years old. He was born on November 1, 1924 in Deerbrook, a son of Frank and Mary (Barta) Cernoch. He married Agnes Zalewski on July 26, 1947 at St. Hyacinth Catholic Church in Antigo. She preceded him in death on March 25, 2014.

He was a graduate of Antigo High School with the class of 1942.

His employment career began at Grandview Orchard, Fairview Dairy then Frost Veneer in Antigo. Mr. Cernoch worked for the United States Postal Service in Antigo as a clerk and mail carrier for 27 years retiring in 1986.

He will long be remembered for his green thumb and excellent vegetable garden. He enjoyed bow hunting and fishing. He was an avid Milwaukee Brewer, Green Bay Packer and Wisconsin Badger fan. Along with his wife of 66 years, he enjoyed trips to the casino, dancing and listening to polka music.

He was a member of the Langlade County Senior Citizens club.

Survivors include four sons, Gary Cernoch and fiancee Sharon Marshall, of Antigo, Thomas (Teri) Cernoch, Tomahawk, Alan (Cindy) Cernoch, Antigo, Gregory Cernoch, Antigo; three sisters, Marion Yingling, Greendale, Betty Doucette, Antigo, Dorothy Bartz, Antigo; eight grandchildren Tina(Gary), Rita, Theron, Travis (Kimberly), Troy (Christine), Kami (Kevin), Aaron and Alex; four great-grandchildren and three step great-granchildren; many nieces, nephews and dear friends.

In addition to his wife he was preceded in death by a daughter in law, Shelby Cernoch, a sister, Evelyn Wells, five brothers Robert, Dale, Norvel, Merton and James Cernoch; two brothers-in-law, Gerald Doucette, and Forest Bartz,.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 4 - 7 p.m. at Bradley Funeral Home and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of services at the funeral home.
