Josephine F. Eckardt
June 3, 1927 - October 14, 2014

Josephine Eckardt, of Deerbrook, died Tuesday, October 14, 2014 at Care Partners under the care of LeRoyer Hospice. She was 87 years old. She was born on June 3, 1927 in Scranton, PA a daughter of Joseph and Josephine (Sury) Piasecki. She married Lavern Eckardt on June 21, 1947 in Chicago, IL. He preceded her in death on June 20, 2010.

She was a graduate of Technical High School in Scranton with the class of 1945.

She worked in the clerical field in Scranton prior to marriage. She and her husband farmed and raised their family in the Kempster area.

Mrs. Eckardt was a member of the Noetzelman-Boodry American Legion Post 377 Auxillary in Elcho and St. Wencel Catholic Church in Neva.

She enjoyed gardening, knitting, feeding birds and caring for her dogs.

Survivors include two daughters Judy (Earl) Schmidt, Birnamwood, Carol (Tom) Knapkavage, Deerbrook; two sons Lavern "Sonny" (Linda) Eckardt Jr., Deerbrook, Michael (Iris) Eckardt, Ringle; 12 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; three sisters Dorothy (Joe) Sileo, Allentown, PA, Helen (Joe) Piazza, Rochester, NY, Delores (Robert) Bender, Moscow, PA; a brother John (Pat) Piasecki, Albuquerque, NM; a brother-in-law Raymond (Beverly) Eckardt, Birnamwood.

In addition to her husband she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Kimberly Fischer, a sister Jean (Joe) Eckardt, four brothers, Joseph, Andrew, Thomas and Edmund Piasecki.

A funeral Mass will be held on Friday at 1:15 p.m. at St. Wencel Catholic Church, Neva with Rev. David Schmidt officiating. Visitation will be 10:30 a.m. - 12:30 p.m. on Friday at the Bradley Funeral Home.

Burial will take place at a later date at Kempster Lakeside Cemetery.
