Harland Wayne Van Ooyen
March 16, 1936 - November 12, 2014

Harland Wayne Van Ooyen, of Antigo, died Wednesday, November 12, 2014 at Homme Home in Wittenberg. He was 78 years old. He was born on March 16, 1936 in Antigo, a son of the late Roland and Virgie (Crum) Van Ooyen. He married Lucille Jones on October 18, 1969 at Peace Lutheran Church, Antigo. She survives.

He was a Korean War veteran having served in the United States Army from May 4, 1953 to May 3, 1956. He transferred to Army Reserves to complete his eight years of service.

Mr. Van Ooyen was employed as a Mechanic at Rosemurgy Ford in Wausau for 28 years.
He was an animal lover and enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing.

In addition to his wife, survivors include a son, John (Paula) Van Ooyen of Antigo; five grandchildren, Samantha Franzen, Paige Hill, Haley Hill, Tyler Tatro and Wyatt Van Ooyen; two sisters, Betty Fleischman and Janet (Fred) Kohlmeier both of Antigo; two sisters-in-law, Darlene Van Ooyen and Donna Van Ooyen both of Antigo. He is further survived by his wife's sisters and brothers, Geraldine Hoerman, Bernice (Jerry) Banczak, Marguerite (Jack) Wurtinger and Willis Jones all of Antigo.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Richard and James; father and mother-in-law, Flatley and Doreth (Fitch) Jones; and a brother-in-law, Ervin Jones.

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday at 11 a.m. at Bradley Funeral Home. Burial will take place in Elmwood Cemetery where Antigo veterans will conduct Military Honors. Visitation will be held Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home.
