"I missed working with him. I volunteered to do office work . It was amazing. He also dated my mother back in the day.. We miss him dearly "
Gregory Stephen Fields was born July 23, 1954 in Freeport, Texas to proud parents, Leland and Raymond Fields. Gregory passed away peacefully at his home in Fort Lauderdale, Florida on Wednesday, December 3rd, 2014. Gregory graduated from Brazosport High School in 1972. He lived in Freeport and surrounding areas before deciding to make Florida his home. He eventually settled in Fort Lauderdale and the last nine years of his life were spent as a devoted husband to his wife Angela, and happy father to her four children.
Gregory was a multi-talented being and showed an early affinity for art. His first college major was in art but he found his true niche in law several years later. He graduated with highest honors from Nova Southeastern University in Ft. Lauderdale in 1999 with a Juris Doctor degree. During his academic tenure, Gregorywas one of two students chosen to continue their law studies at University of Oxford in Oxford, England. He became a member of The Florida Bar Association in 2000.
Gregory spent a rewarding career as a chief legislative aid in Florida to Senator Eleanor Sobel and Representative Elaine Schwartz, respectively. He touched many lives in his career; helping those in need, keeping his co-workers in great spirits, and working diligently to best serve the constituents of his party. He was elected to the Democratic Executive Committee in 2012.
While Gregory was attending Nova Southeastern earning his law degree, he developed a notable talent for writing. After applying his pen to several genres he claimed young adult historical fiction as his preference. Gregory won numerous awards for his works; most notably when he tookfirstand second place in the Tallahassee Writers Association Competition for two short stories. Gregory won honorable mention in the Readers Digest Writer's Competition in the Personal Essay category with "Tempest Passing." Gregory was one of 19,000 entries in the same category. He also became a member of the "Laurel and Hardy Sons of the Desert" in 2009.
Gregory was a kaleidoscope. With every twist and turn of life or circumstance, he fell into place gracefully and became more colorful and vibrant in each role. To know Gregory was to love him. His unique combination of boyish charm and unstoppable wit endeared him to all he met. He may be best remembered for his extraordinary sense of humor and eccentric sense of fun and adventure. To be a part of Gregory's life was a privilege, something that can't be replicated; he was truly one of a kind.
Gregory is survived by his loving wife of nine years, Angela Fields, and her four children: Joy Schilt Maynard, Jordan Schilt, Ryan Schilt and Michael Schilt. "Greg had a joyous spirit and the world is a little less bright without him."
"My deepest sympathy for your profound loss Angela. My thoughts and prayers are with you."
"I'm so sorry for your loss. During this time of great sorrow I hope you find comfort in reflecting on the memories of your dear loved one as well as God's promise for the future found at Revelation 21:4 which says, "He will wipe out every tear from their eyes, and death will be no more, neither will mourning nor outcry nor pain be anymore. ""
"I taled to Gregory a few times over the phone and our subject was always politics....he and I are both members of the Dec....my prayers go out to his family...."
"Angela, My prayers are with you at this most difficult time. God Bless you! "
"It says share your favorite memories of Greg - Growing up next door to the Fields created a lot of memories and he was a couple of years younger than be, BUT...one favorite memory might be the time in the mid 60's that Greg (about 13?) and his brother Kevin (about 12?) ordered a live wild bobcat out of the back of a comic book, had it delivered to their house in Freeport, built a cage out back, and were keeping it as a pet with ~50 kids in the neighborhood and back yard at all times.....(until Mr. Fields found out)."
"When the enemy death strikes your grief can be great. It's never the right time to say goodbye to a loved one. Death too to many seems to be a part of life. It's during times such as these that we can find comfort in the Lord's Prayer in Matthew 6:9, 10 ~ "Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth". Only God's (Psalms 83:18) Kingdom can bring peace, happiness, perfect health, and everlasting life. "
"Prayers go out to the Fields and their families. Charles "Kitten" Murray"
"Greg and I grew up together in Freeport and lived next door to each other. We were in the same grade throughout Catholic school at St. Mary's and later in public school in Freeport. We were together a lot and did some of the crazies things together. It is mircale we both survived. We sadly went our seperate ways right after high school with me going into the USAF and our paths seldom crossed thereafter -- very regrettably. I cannot get him out of my thoughts tonight after i heard of his passing. The stories we could tell on each other ...... i always admired his humor, his many talents, and his view of the world. I always felt since we were buddies with Larry and Ricky too that he was the truly the best of us. I will miss him to my last days. Now all my thoughts and prayers ar with his family and friends. It is good to know and see what great things he went on to and touch so many lives. Bye Greg"
