"I graduated from High School with John and I remember him to be a very friendly and funny guy. RIP John"
John Joseph Bonk, 67, of Green Bay passed away peacefully on January 3, 2015. John was born in Two Rivers, Wisconsin on December 19, 1947 to Paul and Marion Bonk. In 1951 Paul passed away. Marion married Joe Kvitek who is the man John called Father. John graduated from Two Rivers Washington High School and received a bachelor and master's degree from the University of Wisconsin - Stout in education. He was a committed middle and high school technology education teacher in the Green Bay school system for 34 years.
John enjoyed restoring outboard motors and boats, spending time at the family cottage for 45 years, boating with the dogs Mindy, Sydney, McKenna and Sophie, experimenting with new recipes, learning about history, researching family genealogy, and frequenting car and tractor shows with his buddies. John was a dedicated father; he rarely missed a sports game or dance performance. He consistently volunteered for his children's activities including coaching hockey and soccer, chaperoning school dances and EARLY morning dance team practices, theatre set construction, and scouts. He and his friends enjoyed playing pranks on each other, discussing their upcoming projects and planning their next 'outing.'
John will forever be remembered by his wife of 45 years, Evie (Schuessler); son, Aaron (Jenni) and their children, Anna, Ava and Henry; daughter, Julie; son Pete (Krista); daughter, Katie (Steve) Kaufman and their child due in March; and countless other family, friends and former students.
Family and friends are invited to gather at Lyndahl Funeral Home, 1350 Lombardi Avenue, on Saturday, January 10, 2015 from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 4:00 p.m. with Rev. Joshua Errer officiating. Online condolences may be expressed at www.lyndahl.com.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund will be set up for Leader Dogs for the Blind in John's name.
The family would like to thank the Allouez Fire and Rescue Squad and the wonderful staff at the Aurora BayCare Medical Center for providing exceptional care.

"We were so sorry to hear about your loss. The last time I had talked to John, he was telling me about Katie expecting and how he could not believe his little girl, was having a baby. We will certainly miss seeing him, Kevin always loved seeing what kind of a boat he would be working on next. John actually made Kevin some ladders for one of his fire trucks, in his collection. He always gave, my pups a little pat, when we were on our walks. The list could go on and on. He will certainly be missed in the neighborhood. Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you. "
"We are so sorry to hear about the passing of John. What a wonderful neighbor to all of us Leys. We have many memories of Katie, the service dogs you raised and how kind you were to mom and dad. Our thoughts and prayers are with you all."
"To John's Family, Our thoughts are with you as you as you console each other. Tom and I took great pleasure in teaching with John. The compassion he showed to/with each student including the special needs students was touching. The chats as we passed your home was always pleasant."
"Very sorry to hear of John's passing. I knew John during his tenure as an officer on the WTEA Board. He volunteered his time to help further Technology and Engineering Education in the State of Wisconsin and improve teaching and learning for all students. John's memory will endure forever in the hundreds of students he taught and shared his knowledge with."
"I am sorry to hear about John's passing. I worked with John for many years while he served on the Board of Directors for the WI Tech Ed Assn. John was a true professional educator, a wonderful role model for his students and a colleague who willing shared his expertise with others."
