Barbara Nieman
March 26, 1930 - January 18, 2011

Barbara Nieman, age 80 of Newcastle, WA, died on Tuesday, 18 January 2011 of complications from cancer. Her children were with her at time of death.

Barbara was born in Pomeroy, WA to Orville and Winifred (Dale) Rommel, wheat farmers in the area. She grew up in rural Genesee, ID, where she attended school and graduated from high school. She attended Pacific Lutheran College for two years, and married Robert Nieman in 1950.

Through the course of years, she lived in Texas, Washington, Oregon, Idaho, and California before returning to the Seattle area in 1977. After returning, she worked in several secretarial and administrative positions until she retired in the late 1990s. She was active member of Saint Andrew's Lutheran Church, and participated in OWLS and volunteer office support.

She was preceded in death by her father in 1983 and her mother in 2006. She is survived by her daughter, Joanne (Nieman) Hinkle, of Bellevue and her son, James Nieman, his wife JoAnn Post, and their daughters, Clara and Madelene Nieman, all of Manchester, CT, as well as her uncle Lewis Dale of Santa Paula, CA.

Her children are thankful for the compassionate presence during her last hours by her attending physician and nurses at the Intensive Care Unit at Overlake Hospital.

The family has requested memorials be given to Saint Andrew's Lutheran Church, Bellevue, WA
