Claremont Dean Engebretson
August 16, 1924 - August 15, 2012

Claremont Dean Engebretson passed away on August 15, 2012 in Bellevue, WA. He was born in Filmore County, MN on August 16, 1924 to Arnold and Selma Engebretson. He received a B.S. degree from the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy, Kings Point and a BME from the University of Minnesota. He served at sea with the Merchant Marine and Navy during WWII, first in the North Atlantic and later in the Mediterranean, the Middle East and the Pacific. He married Helen Engen on June 12, 1949 and they were blessed with three children. Clare was a Research Associate at MIT, member of Sigma XI, science honorary and a registered professional engineer. During this time he was involved in solar energy research, living in an experimental solar heated house. The family relocated to Seattle where Clare was employed by the Boeing Airplane Co. He retired from The Boeing Company, Airworthiness in 1987. Through the years, Clare was involved in many volunteer activities including the Civil Air Patrol (pilot), National Ski Patrol, Museum of Flight and Overlake Hospital. Music was an important part of Clare's life. He played the tuba in many bands, orchestras and assemblies. Clare is survived by Helen, his wife of 63 years; his children, Eric, of Snoqualmie Pass, Leslie, of Duvall and Mark (Erika), of Monterey, CA and by his granddaughters, Annika and Elsa.
