Doug was born in Seattle, WA at Harborview Medical Center, just 2 months shy of 75 years ago. At the ripe old age of 13, he moved out on his own, got a job setting pins at the bowling alley, and got his first apartment, all while completing high school. As soon as he could, he enlisted in the Air Force, where he became a Jet Engine Mechanic, a medic, and an accomplished boxer. When Doug got out of the military, he lived in Georgia, owned a Dojo and ran Moonshine from Georgia to Texas. Later, he moved to California, where he owned a ranch, broke horses and drove semi-truck off and on throughout the years. Doug moved to Washington State in the late 60's where he logged for Weyrhauser and later he layed sod and planted plants for the University of Washington. He bartended at different locations over the years, was a salesman of gutters and awnings and top salesmen for quite a run at Detroit Auto Works in Seattle, WA. Doug ran motion pictures and was a member of the IATSE Union, showing films at The Lynn Twin, The Harvard Exit, Guild 45th, 7 Gables, Overlake and The Aurora Cinemas. He also at the time owned a janitorial service with Ann, called D&A Services. Doug later worked as a mechanic at Exxon, Factory Direct and Managed a Goodyear and Elliot Tire. He was a member of the Teamsters union and later owned his own trucking Company, Whitlock Trucking. Doug hauled a variety of things including TNT, oversized loads, swinging beef, wine, flatbeds, dump trucks, refer units, containers and tankers for general transport. He even drove tow trucks at one point.
Doug loved football, baseball, boxing, and Nascar. He played Donkey Baseball, rode motorcycles, water-skied, golfed, raced cars at Evergreen Speedway, and sang crazy songs to his kids. He loved mile markers, driving the I5 corridor and through the mountains. Doug was an avid reader and enjoyed the early morning sunrise with his coffee and newspaper. He had an amazing sense of humor, was loyal, and honest. Doug most recently was working on restoring a Formula Firebird with his grandson, which he had given him.
Doug has done amazing things in his life and was a very committed man to his family, friends and responsibilities.
Doug, Dougie, Dad, Grandpa, Brother, Uncle, Old Goat, Fossil - you will be greatly missed, loved and never forgotten. We cannot imagine life without you. You will forever be in our hearts.
