Catharine Jane Wade Henderson, age 87 of Mingo, died at her daughter's (Nora Borts') home in Mingo on Tuesday, March 17, 2015. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 20, 2015, at 1:00 p.m. at the Howard Street Christian Church with burial following at Green Castle Cemetery. Visitation will take place on Thursday, March 19, 2015, form 2:00 - 8:00 p.m. at Coburn Funeral Home in Colfax. The family will greet friends from 6:00 - 8:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family or mailed to Coburn Funeral Home at 24 West Howard Street Colfax, Iowa 50054. Catharine was born in Colfax, Jasper County, Iowa on April 17, 1927, to Harry Michael and Laura Elizabeth Geneva (Miller) Wade. She was raised by her grandparents, Joseph and Julia Catherine "Kate" (Dameron) Miller. She attended country schools in the Colfax area and graduated from Colfax High School in the class of 1945. She worked at a restaurant named, Lone Tree and Mom's Café in Newton. During the war she also worked at the Ordinance Plant in Des Moines. She held many offices in the Iowa State and Jasper County, Iowa Genealogy Societies. Catharine was a member of the Degree of Pocahontas - Improved Order of the Redman Lodge for 72 years. She also held many offices as well as past Great Pocahontas. Many of the things she enjoyed includes, spending time with all of the many children in her life, she liked to make quilts, sewing, fishing, camping, genealogy, Pocahontas meetings, teaching the grandchildren kids songs and many other things. Catharine was married to Charles Elias Brown on May 25, 1945 in Marshalltown and to Harold Everett Henderson on May 1, 1956 in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Those left to honor her memory include her children, Charles Robert Brown of Colfax, Nora Borts of Mingo, Cora (Mike) Williams of Colfax and Marilyn (Rick Fite) Henderson of Runnells; three step children, Clifford (Doris) Henderson of West Des Moines, Ronald (Colleen) Henderson of Colfax, and Marcella (Henderson) Van Sant of California. Catharine was blessed with 24 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren, and 55 great great grandchildren. Also surviving a sister, Patricia Kintz of Des Moines; and two brothers, Richard Frederick (Nelda) Morton and William Orville (Lynda Howell) Morton of Mingo. Preceding her in death were her parents, husband, Harold Henderson on May 24, 1984; her daughters, Lavina Kay Brown Pinegar Dawson and infant, Julia Catharine Henderson; a still born step daughter, Dorothy Maxine Henderson and three brothers, Jim, Joe and Robert.
