Stuart "Joe" Lyon age 68, of Ames, Iowa died Thursday, June 18, at Israel Family Hospice House in Ames. A gathering of friends and family will be 2-4:00 p.m. Sunday, June 28, at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care 414 Lincoln Way with an 11:00 a.m. Monday, June 29, celebration of life memorial service at Grandon Funeral and Cremation Care in Ames.
Joe was born May 25, 1947 in Ames, Iowa the son of Stuart L. and Marie Lyon. He graduated from Ames High School in 1965. Iowa State University in 1991. He married Susie Cox on May 25, 1987 in Ames. Joe was employed at Lenox Industries in Des Moines retiring in 2012. Joe enjoyed golf and was an instructor for the
Park and Recreation Dept. for the City of Ames for several years. Joe enjoyed playing at the Oaks Golf Course before it closed. He was past member of Moose Lodge #520 of Ames, lifetime member of Izaak Walton League of Ames, and Calvary United Methodist Church.
Joe is survived by his wife Susie Lyon of Ames, his brother, Roy E. Lyon of Ft. Dodge, sisters in law Nancy (Art) Bates of Ames, Pat (Lindsay) Ellingson of Ames, Diane Cox and Ron Jones of Story City, nephews, Greg Lyon, and William Bates, nieces JoEllen Walker, Jill Kruse, and Kate Stephens, great nieces and nephews, and many extended family members.
