"My thoughts and prayers are with Marv's family, friends and loved ones. Always respected him as VP at MHS. Although I spent time in his office, he was fair and always saw the best and potential in students, and not the negatives. He played no favorites and always had a smile on his face. May he rest well in God's hands."
"So glad to have met Marv here in Missisippi..a fellow Wisconsin native and Badger fan. We had many laughs, and loved his ability to always have a joke to tell. He was a wonderful part of our life and the life of the church here and will be missed by so many. Loved that smile Marvin...it was infectious. God Bless the family and friends as they celebrate his life.."
"marv, i'll miss you ,can't put in words how much you helped me in my days at middleton. you will always be in my thoughts and my heart. we have had many a good times , rest in peace my freind"
"I like seeing this picture of Marv with the big smile because that is how I remember him. That warm and wonderful smile is his enduring legacy to his family and friends. He was a warm and caring husband, father, teacher and administrator. He left some large footprints. My sympathy to all the family, with hugs for Sandy and Jo, my former students. "
"Like clockwork, you were there asking where I had been. Each time, I would respond, "around". And each time, you would reward me with a detention. Back then, never in a bazillion years, would I think that I would appreciate your tenacity. Well, DeYoung, it paid off. Wish I could have thanked you in person, but it was not to be. May you find big fish & happiness as you transition. In my book, your influence spoke volumes. Thanks much!

"We are so very sad today, Jo. Your father was one of a kind.
Marv DeYoung made us laugh. Every time we saw him, or spoke on the phone, or even when we just thought of him. He always made us laugh.
Marv had as many jokes as Robin Williams, as many stories as Dr. Suess, as many, crazy experiences as I Love Lucy.
Marv was an outstanding teacher, an amazing high school administrator, a loving husband and father, and the greatest of friends. He was supportive, positive, protective, firm, and , most of all, kind.
Marv loved his girls, his Annie, his job (most of the time), his fishing, his singing, and his Korbel. And he happily shared it all with whomever he could.
Marv will surely be remembered - his laughter and jokes will be repeated, his zest for life envied. It is hard to believe he won't be here, but his glow will forever warm our hearts. Our eyes shall glisten whenever our memories of him flood our hearts.
And we might watch a Packer or Badger game and think of Marv. Or go on a sun filled fishing trip or sing a psalm in church, or order a brandy on the rocks. And we might just be nicer to others because Marv has made us aware of how fragile we all are.
Thanks for the laughs, Marv. And for sharing the gift of laughter with us. You made us smile and love you. All the time. And we are grateful.
