In loving memory of

Dorothy G. Greiert
April 24, 1923 - November 13, 2015

Madison/Shawano - Dorothy Greiert passed away on November 13, 2015, in Shawano, WI. She was the youngest of three daughters born to Paul and Mary Tuttle on April 24, 1923. She was born in Geddes, SD, where she lived until her high school years. Then her family moved to Benson, MN.

Dorothy had photography as her hobby, which eventually became her first real job in a portrait studio. She also loved music passionately, which included: singing in a 10 piece dance band; singing in the church choir; and singing in the Madison Symphony chorus when she eventually moved to Madison, WI. Her love of music remained in her life and carried over into the lives of her children.

In 1945, Dorothy met and married Walter Greiert after which they moved from Minnesota to Green Bay, WI and then onto
Madison, WI. They were blessed with four children and one step-daughter. The children were Steve, John, Colleen, Mary and Marlene. Later, after the children were grown up and went on with their lives, the grandchildren began to arrive - eight grandchildren and five great grandchildren to date. Dorothy and her husband Walt loved and enjoyed all of the activities the whole family experienced.

In 1968, Dorothy decided to go back to work and became a tour guide for Hemispheric Tours, Hello America tours, and tours for Burkhalter Travel. She traveled to Europe, Hawaii, Canada, Costa Rica, the Panama Canal, but mostly tours in our beautiful
homeland of the USA. She also composed a two hour bus tour of Madison, WI for visitors who came to Madison. The tours were available through the Madison Convention & Visitors Bureau.

Singing in the Bethel Lutheran church choir and volunteer work at the church kept her very busy. She worked at the food pantry, helped the homeless people, and served as Chairwoman of the "Bethel Lutheran Church Women" for two years.

Dorothy and Walter, enjoyed golf, boating, dancing, singing together, and cheering for the Badger & Green Bay Packer football teams. When her husband passed away in 2002, she sold their home and moved to an independent living apartment in Middleton, WI.

Later, in 2009, she moved to Shawano, WI to be near some of her family. She lived there until her death. She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, two sisters, two brothers-in-law, several aunts and uncles, and cousins. Survivors include her children, Steve, John, Colleen, Mary and Marlene; eight grandchildren; five great grandchildren; two nieces; three nephews; dear Jennifer Greiert and many good friends.

Dorothy loved the Lord and faithfully followed His will throughout her life.

Friends may join the family for a visitation at Bethel Lutheran Church, 312 Wisconsin Ave, Madison on Thursday, November 19, 2015 from 10am - 11am. The funeral service will take place at 11am, and Dorothy will be laid to rest at Roselawn Memorial Park.

The family wishes to thank those who kindly cared for her, especially the staff at "The Cottages" assisted living in Shawano, WI and the doctors and nurses who served her along the way.

"I had the pleasure of meeting Mrs. Greiert back in 1973 when I was a young boy of 16 and dated her lovely daughter Mary. She was one of the absolute kindest women I had ever met. She went out of her way to make me feel welcome in her home and at the numerous functions she invited me to. I remember a time when for Valentines Day she bought a bottle of wine for Mary and I so we could celebrate the holiday. To this day, when I see that wine in a store I think back to her kindness. Prayers for Dorothy and her family. Ron Hoffman-Grosse Pointe Park Michigan "
