In loving memory of

Hermine G. Rasmussen
May 4, 1927 - November 29, 2015

On May 4, 1927 Malcolm and Madeline Thompson of the Bronx NY, welcomed their first daughter to the world Hermine Gladys Thompson (Minnie). Wasting no time, Minnie began to change the world. She was the older sister to Malcolm Jr (Bus), Elizabeth (Beth) and Adele (Honey). All of them told stories of how they looked up to Minnie growing up and even after they were grown. In 1946 Minnie met a handsome young man at church, specifically behind the church at the basketball court. Norman Rasmussen was smitten from the beginning. Not yet 16 years old Norman went home and told his mother he met the girl he was going to marry.

Min and Norm were married in New York City on May 6, 1950. Prior to being married Min worked as a legal secretary in New York and she continued there until 1951 when her son Raymond was born. While living in New York, Connecticut, and Massachusetts The couple welcomed 3 more children, Norman Jr, Karen and Kathy. Min spent the rest of her life being the best wife and mother in the world.

Min enjoyed playing tennis, sailing and traveling. Min and Norm took the kids camping, sailing and to Disney World. To the children, everything appeared planned, effortless and perfect until of course they tried it with children of their own. It was then that they all knew their mother was super human. Min chaperoned many class trips for all 4 kids including many multi-day bus trips with hundreds of high school kids. She was fearless. She enjoyed sharing her family experiences with the other mothers. They all looked up to her as she always had sage advice.

Norm credits Min with making him a better man. Min was a good church going girl and Norm realized early in their relationship he needed to change. In his words, he wasn't smart enough to have 2 sets of vocabulary, 1 for Min and 1 for his friends so he would stop using slang and swearing. He often tells stories of how Min managed the money and her good sense allowed them to be as comfortable in their retirement as they were when Norm was working. She instilled the importance of family, being good people and a strong work ethic in all of her children. Min was very proud of her kids and grandchildren and loved to talk to other residents in the Village about them.

Min left us early in the morning on Sunday 11/29. Knowing Norm was faithful to the 7am - 7pm schedule he kept while she was hospitalized, Min waited for Norm to return to her room before saying good bye. There will never be another love like theirs. February 12, 2016 would have been their 70th dating anniversary. They celebrated that date every year.

Min was pre deceased by her parents and her siblings. The family knows they are all in heaven having big Thompson belly laughs. The angels sang when the family was together again at last.

Mourning Min's passing is her husband of 65 years, Norm and their 4 children and their spouses, grand children and great grandchildren. In birth order the children are son Ray and Deb Rasmussen of Elgin SC, son Norman Jr and Erminia Rasmussen of New Lebanon NY and their children Ingrid Rasmussen and her daughter Isabella, Norman III and Krista Rasmussen, and Michael Rasmussen, daughter Karen and Bill Widdick of Davie FL and their children Raymond and Jenna McCoy, and Megan and Joshua Jelaso and their twin daughters Violet Hilda and Olivia Hermine, as well as Will, Katie, Daniel and Carli Widdick, also daughter Kathy Rasmussen and Patricia Sutterfield of Chicago, IL. Min was loved by many outside her immediate family including nieces and nephews scattered across the country.

Min, Mom, Ma, Grandma and Aunt Minnie - all describe the same wonderful woman who left this world on 11/29 but will never leave our hearts.

The family will be having a private service.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to JKVFoundation.com, The Woodlands fund. This is a state of the art Health Center Norm fought tirelessly to bring to John Knox Village with the hopes it would be a good home for Min and others as her disease progressed. Each resident will have a private room and bathroom encouraging a home like feeling while building a community relationship among residents.
