Patricia Davey Struck

"I had the great honor of meeting Patty Struck in May 2003, when Governor Jim Doyle asked us to meet in his office. Patty was a leader from the day I met her - and a fantastic collaborator. Her knowledge of the Securities Laws was second to none. 1 month into my job as the Cabinet Secretary of the DFI (where Patty and I both worked) - Elliot Spitzer came to Wisconsin. He was a nightmare - Patty was a diligent investigator and media expert "we don't comment on pending investigations". Patty later helped us champion the formation of the Wisconsin Angel Network by keeping NASAA in the loop (North American Securities Administrators) to ensure we were following all regulations. When she was named President of NASAA we gave her a lovely sparkly crown, which she draped over the corner of the NASAA certificate in her office. Even after I left DFI - Patty offered kindly to sponsor me as a member of the Madison Downtown Rotary - claiming the Brandy Tasting group was a really fun committee! "Patty and I met at our mailboxes in 1980 in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin, discovering that we were two professional women married to two professional men, renting duplexes where we women were commuting to Milwaukee and the men were commuting to Madison. What are the chances of that? I am SO GLAD that she walked into my life. It's been pure joy to know her - her compassion, her great Christian faith, her wit and wonderful smile & laugh, her humility, her intelligence. We all could go on forever about her. One of the first things she did - she invited me over to make Christmas cookies, but something was wrong with Larry and Patty's duplex stove, so we regressed to baking in a toaster oven and laughed all night long! I am so distraught for Larry who loved her deeply and were such a fabulous couple - and for Tom, Stephen and Jonathan who have had to say good-bye for now to a WONDERFUL mother who cherished them beyond the mood. Patty, words cannot describe how much I love you and respect you. I miss you - everything about you - and I'm so sorry that I was not in touch or nearby during your recent illness. "Patty and I met when we took a handmade books class. We had so much fun. we signed up for continuing handmade books. Then somehow, we signed up to study how to make handmade paper. We giggled throughout and, managed to produce some lovely paper in somewhat vivid colors. She and Larry attended plays where I performed. My fondest memory was the two of us making paper at her house on Martin Luther King Day. Lots of water, lots of paper, ..... miss her already. Jane Leahy"
