Donette Samantha Hicks "Sam", of Lauderhill, Florida, passed away peacefully at Cleveland Clinic Medical Center in Weston, Florida on Saturday morning, January 9, 2016. She was 46 years of age.
Born in Georgetown, Guyana on April 26, 1969, loving daughter and youngest child of Joyce (Matthews) and Cecil Hicks, Sam and her family came to the United States in 1978, settling in Brooklyn, New York where she was educated. She later relocated to Florida to be closer to immediate family.
Sam was a devoted mother to her children, Nicholas Thomas, Samaya Thomas, and Kevin Thomas to whom she dedicated her life. She was an excellent cook (her home being known as Cooking Central), enjoyed life and lived it to the fullest. Before her retirement due to illness, Sam worked for Broward County Corrections Department as a payroll administrator.
In addition to her loving children, she leaves behind her beloved parents Joyce (Matthews) and Cecil Hicks, sister Cicely Hicks, brother Orin Hicks, partner of many years Christopher Thomas, nephew Terence Garnett, niece Nicola Hicks, numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, and great nieces and nephews: Michael, Chelsea, Erin, Tatiana, Brandon, and Geena. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Visitation and services will be held on Thursday, January 14th from 2:00 ~ 3:00 P.M. at Fred Hunters University Drive Home, 2401 South University Drive, Davie, FL 33324. Relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend. Repast to follow.at 11501 NW 29th Street. Sunrise fl. 33323
