Carl Steigerwald wrote on Jan 22, 2008:

"I met Dog, Deb, and their wonderful families in the early 80's. I worked at Merchants Bank and came in to the Dog House regularly to do what I called "collateral checks", which really consisted of enjoying the best chili, cheeseburgers, and cheese curds available anywhere, with even better company. I got to know Dog, Deb, and the family very well and we became really good friends. My favorite memories were the Sunday trips we would take to LaCrosse for "shopping", which started out as nacho chips, lunch and bloody marys at Esteban's. We always wound up back at the Dog House to play Super Mario for hours. Those were some great, carefree times that I will treasure forever. To Dog and Deb's children, I just want to say that I am sorry for having eaten your Easter baskets that one fateful Easter morning. I was so glad that Kwik Trip sells Easter baskets on Easter Sunday! Also, do you still have that old, out-of-tune piano? We sure had some fun with that! To all the family that remains, and especially Jessica, Samara, and Chase, for whom I will always have special memories, my deepest sympathies and strongest prayers go out to you. The legend of Dog and Debbie Daggit will never die. May God bless you all..."

It was my mission my freshman year of college when visiting Winona to find the Dog House. (Spring of 1992) We finally succeeded. It was lucky I looked like my mom and he remembered a raspy voiced girl and we were treated well, even though we weren't old enough to be there! I am Judy McDowell's daughter and niece of Jane and Mark Gerry. I am really sorry to here about the loss of a good man. I am sure he will be greatly missed by many! Angela Zeyen"

Keith & Tammy Smith wrote on Jan 4, 2008:

"We got to know "Dog", his wife Debbie, his two daughters Jessica & Rhett Zenke and children, Sammy and son Chase through our loving neighbors Don & Delores Kruse. When visiting with family, Dog would always take time to chat with us. Dog would always chuckle when I would walk in Schneipps Bar for my pattymelt and cheese curds carryout as he knew that is all I ever ordered. We shared many stories at the Westfield Golf Course (Dog's hangout as he loved golf) as we would go to watch our son Chad play. This has got to be the hardest time for the Daggit and Kruse family as they are very close. The tradgic loss of his wife Debbie hit the family so very hard. The loss of Don, Delores and Diane has just been too much too soon. We have always been treated like family. Our thoughts and prayers to the Daggit and Kruse family. God Bless!"

"I have not seen 'Dog leg', which was later shortened to 'dog' in 25 years, but had always wanted to stop by the bar when in Winona. Too bad I never get down there as none of my kids chose WSU. I remember playing whiffle ball in the Daggitt backyard (150 feet from where we lived), as well as ball games across the street. Football games on sloppy fileds in the fall. Just lots of fun that neighborhood kids had as they grew up. I'm sure Jim will be missed by the Winona community. I know his heart was big and can't be replaced. Our sympathies extend to the entire family and community. I'm sure he will be missed."

Through the years at Schniepp's where he helped with the lunch crowd serving great food or sometimes just chatting after a softball game at Schniepp's. Got to chat with him briefly a couple times in the last few weeks at Schniepp's and saying Hi while we were doing some shopping for Christmas goodies at Wal-Mart. God Speed Dog, I will miss ya."
